Self-Assessment Diagnostic.
Eight dimensions, forty statements. A profile and a result in about fifteen minutes.
Before you start
This instrument covers the eight dimensions of the model: the three lenses, the four conditions, and the development of people. Score each statement 0, 1 or 2 and write the figure in the box. Be honest rather than aspirational – the score reflects current reality, not intended direction.
- 0Not in place
- 1Partially in place
- 2Consistently in place
Each dimension scores out of 10 and the whole instrument out of 80. The profile across the eight dimensions matters more than the total – read it first.
Complete this with at least two people who hold different roles in the organisation. Where scorers disagree, record both – the disagreement is data, not a problem to resolve before you proceed.

Your profile
With JavaScript on, your totals, profile and band appear here as you score. Without it, add up each dimension out of 10 and the whole out of 80, then read the bands below.
0 / 80
- 0–26Your totalThe organisation is operating within a reactive-purpose frame. The immediate priority is the Stage 0 and Stage 1 foundations described in Chapter 9.
- 27–53Your totalSome purpose thinking is in place, but it is uneven. Use the dimension scores to find where the gaps are largest, and start there.
- 54–80Your totalThe foundations are present. The question shifts from whether purpose is being considered to whether it is being pursued deliberately enough to constitute Deliberately Predictive Purpose.
Reading the result
The profile matters more than the total. Read the three lens dimensions together: a strong primary lens with weak secondary and tertiary lenses is an organisation with self-knowledge and no outward vision. Read the four condition dimensions together: strong ownership with weak timing is an organisation with the right people carrying the wider question at the wrong moment. The lowest-scoring dimension is almost always where the first substantive work belongs.
Map the lowest-scoring dimensions against the three opening questions from Chapter 9. In most organisations, the things people said they would change cluster directly around the dimensions that scored lowest. Note any dimension where scorers disagreed – those disagreements are often the most useful material the assessment produces.
